Concluding to the need and necessity of more powered servers the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has decided to install five high capacity servers that will be imported from Singapore to speed up booking of e-tickets especially Tatkal tickets.
The decision to import five new servers from Singapore approaches on the heels of presentation of two new rapid servers by IRCTC to Passenger Reservation System (PRS) not long ago, which have multiplied the highly peaked time proficiency for booking tatkal tickets at the railways' ticketing site.
With five more servers, the quantity of simultaneous clients is relied upon to go up from the current 180,000 to 300,000 while the current ability to book around 15,000 tickets for each moment will go up impressively.
“There are five new HP Itanium servers, to be installed shortly in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which would considerably boost up the booking of e-tickets and streamline the Next Generation E-Ticketing System (NGET),” IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director AK Manocha on Friday said.
“There five servers installed in the PRS already and after the installation of the brand new Itanium servers from HP, the total number of servers will increase to ten” he said.

The benefit of the new servers:
- Increment in overall performance of the website.
- Reduced load time.
- More users can access the website at the same time.
- More e-tickets can be booked.
- Showing up of error pages will minimised.
IRCTC has also planned to increase its network bandwidth from the existing 1.4 GB to 1.7 GB in order to enhance the performance of e-ticketing operations and reducing database errors.
Prior on June 1, IRCTC had introduced two Linux-empowered servers, considerably raising the web booking limit, much to the alleviation of passengers needing to book a tatkal ticket. The site witnesses substantial surge in its initial 15 minutes as tatkal reservation opens at 10 AM consistently.
